What is
Community Organisations Regional Network (CORN)
It is a
CORN is a regional network of community organisations in seven
SADC countries, Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa,
Zambia and Zimbabwe. with a focus on rural communities.
The fast growth of CBOs and the increasing demands being made upon them to deliver services and assistance to communities are significant. CORN's main mission is to strengthen national associations in the five representative countries.
CORN was conceived for the purpose of changing the existing paradigms of development initiatives. These at the inception of colonialism had a
top-bottom approach that relegated communities to the periphery.
Vision
To engage communities, policy makers and governments in meaningful dialogue to create a trust bank that buoys development.
Mission Statement
To engage rural communities to carve out their own developmental strategies in consultation with other communities in southern Africa.
Value
The reaffirmation to communities of their inalienable right to self-determination and upliftment.
Goal
CORN’s primary goal is to continually uplift rural livelihoods through community-based and community driven programmes.
Objectives of CORN
Develop adequate capacity for communities to manage and sustain their own development.
Support collection, analysis, distribution and exchange of information and experiences to
improve decision-making.
Promote the mobilisation and equitable distribution of resources.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies that contribute to improved and
sustainable rural livelihoods.
