Energy sector
policies by governments and Multilateral Development Banks (MDB)
have taken little environmental considerations says the ZERO
country study for Zimbabwe. This study was focused on analysing
the energy sector policies of the Government of Zimbabwe, the
MDB and the environmental considerations, is any, that are taken
into account when planning energy investments.
The study
revealed a number on inconsistencies between environmental
conventions, MDBs' energy sector investment policies and local
development priorities. The findings of this report were
presented at a regional project review meeting of project
partners held in Nairobi in April 1998. The workshop convened in
June 1999 provided an opportune forum for lobbying and advocacy
for changes in energy investments by multi-lateral development
banks towards more investment in renewable energy projects. The
workshop also presented an opportunity to engage policy makers
in dialogue that may lead to the formation of energy policies
that encourage investment in renewable energy technologies.
